How many times can you move in one summer?

Life has been quite crazy for us the past couple of months, sorry if it gets confusing. As I said at the beginning of the summer we went to Jackson, Mississippi to work. After two and a half very slow weeks the company decided to merge the Jackson office with their most successful office in the company, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The current sales managers didn’t like how this idea felt to their egos so they spoke to a regional sales manager from APX Alarm and he offered to hire everyone on and put them in their Gulf Coast office which was currently working in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. This APX office did things a little different than other security offices; they were what APX called a mobile office. They worked and moved around an area of the country, staying in hotels as they changed locations.
All of this put Josh and I in an interesting situation. When Silverline said they wanted to merge the offices they were only really thinking about the salesmen, as it is with anyone in this industry. Because of this the Silverline Baton Rouge office only wanted the technicians from Jackson if they were getting the salesmen to as well. This left us with no other option but to go to Hattiesburg with APX.
Hattiesburg, Mississippi is a sad little city about two hours south of Jackson. Home to the University of Southern Mississippi, it reminded me a lot of Cedar City, Utah, except that it was a big enough town to have TWO Wal-Marts (a big deal to one chatty local). So Josh and I settled in with all of our stuff into a small hotel room. Despite the many negative aspects of living in a hotel room for weeks Josh had some perks in his work; he was working with new and easier to install equipment and he was also getting along well with the other techs. APX also offered me some part time work; it wasn’t much but better than nothing. I didn’t see the point in trying to find a job locally when the office was planning on moving on to Gulf Port, MS in just a few weeks. By the time I had found a job I wouldn’t even be able to put in my two weeks notice.
Things seemed to be going alright for us, Josh was finally getting as much work as we expected from the beginning of the summer. Just when we were starting to feel as settled as we could be in a hotel room the lead tech, Shane, from the Silverline Baton Rouge office called. He was in desperate need of techs to work in his office. The problem for him was that Louisiana is very strict with licensing for security companies; lucky for him that Josh was licensed to install in Louisiana already, a process that takes weeks. In short, he made us an offer we couldn’t refuse. We packed up our cars, again, to head for Baton Rouge. We left on good terms with APX, we even began talking to them about next summer.
So we are now living in an apartment (Hallelujah!) in Baton Rouge, but Josh has been working all over the area. This office rather than move around all summer just choose a central spot to live and travel to different areas to get the most out of the summer. Lately Josh has been working in New Orleans, about an hour and a half south of Baton Rouge. Things are good with us although very busy. Silverline did not have a job for me when we went to Baton Rouge so I have been going with Josh everyday to help make his work go faster. (With this job the faster you can complete an install the more work you get.) It’s been working out very well, we have a system down and my help gets us at least a few extra installs a week.

I apologize for how long it’s been since I posted, I will try my best to post again soon. We hope all our friends and family are well and enjoying their summers, we miss you.
